The Story: My astronomy professor in college drove an old Volvo and was proud to keep us informed of its odometer reading. Dr. Cotton came into class one day and said, “Okay, I'm almost to the moon,” which we knew, from a previous lecture, is 236k miles from earth. Then I got to wondering, “What would it be like to drive straight off the horizon and just keep going?”

My Creative Mission: In our split, shaken, worried state, music has particular agency. Good songs open the heart and remind us of our humanity. We need them now. My songs are not written to assert an ideology. They are a daily practice of listening. I try to hear in the gaps something stirring, a story, the unseen relationships. I usually know when I'm telling the truth. Occasionally, I hear a megaphone.
